Premature Ejaculation Duration You Need to Know
Premature ejaculation can cause psychological problems for those who experience it; find out how long it can be considered premature ejaculation here!
Premature ejaculation is a condition in which a man experiences climax and ejaculation (release of semen) sooner than desired during sexual intercourse. Generally, this is considered a common sexual issue.
When this happens, some people may feel stressed, especially if premature ejaculation occurs over a certain period of time. Feelings of disappointment and embarrassment may also arise related to premature ejaculation.
How Ejaculation Works
The process of ejaculation involves several stages. It’s like a natural process in the body when experiencing orgasm or sexual pleasure. Ejaculation begins with the presence or absence of sexual stimulation. This can occur through touch, sight, or thoughts.
When a man feels aroused, signals are sent from the spinal cord to the brain. The brain is the control center that tells the body what to do. Then, the brain instructs the reproductive organs (such as the testes and prostate) to initiate the ejaculation process.

The first phase of ejaculation is called emission. At this stage, sperm moves from the testes to the prostate. In the prostate, sperm is mixed with seminal fluid, forming semen.
The second phase, called expulsion, occurs when the muscles at the base of the penis contract (tighten). These contractions push semen out of the penis through a process called ejaculation.
After ejaculation, the erection (penile rigidity) usually subsides. This is the final step in the ejaculation cycle.
What Is Premature Ejaculation?
Premature ejaculation is when ejaculation occurs sooner than desired during sexual intercourse, within a specific time frame. Usually, penetration of less than 1 minute can be considered premature ejaculation.
Occasional premature ejaculation is also known as rapid ejaculation and premature climax. This condition may not necessarily be harmful but can be frustrating if it makes sexual intercourse less enjoyable and affects the relationship.
Causes of Premature Ejaculation
The exact causes of premature ejaculation are not known, but there are many reasons why a man may experience premature ejaculation. Here are some causes to be aware of:
Serotonin
Serotonin is a natural substance in the body produced by nerves. It helps control how the brain manages mood, emotions, sleep, and sexual desire. High levels of serotonin in the brain increase ejaculation time, while low levels can shorten ejaculation time.
Psychological Issues
Psychological issues or mental health problems can be involved in the causes of premature ejaculation. Some mental health problems that may be involved include:
Depression
Anxiety
Stress
Guilt
Unrealistic sexual expectations
Low self-esteem
Inhibited or suppressed sexual feelings
Emotional issues
If you have some of the psychological issues mentioned above, it may be helpful to seek medical help, such as from a psychologist or psychiatrist. They can help address issues that may be affecting your psychological well-being.
Age Factor
Premature ejaculation can occur at any age, and aging is not a direct cause. However, premature ejaculation may become more common as men age, which may be related to a decrease in testosterone levels.
For some older men, erections may not be as hard or large as they used to be. Erections may not last as long before ejaculation occurs. These changes can lead to premature ejaculation.
Issues with Partner
Ejaculation can also occur due to problems in the relationship with a partner. Feelings of anger, shame, or frustration during sexual intercourse can lead to premature ejaculation. For this issue, communication with your partner is crucial.
Couple’s counseling or sexual therapy may be helpful. Exercises, such as the squeeze technique, may be useful for both you and your partner to prolong erection duration.
Parents can also consult a doctor if premature ejaculation is significantly disruptive, especially if they are trying to conceive. Read more about reproductive health, pregnancy programs, and IVF programs at Bocah Indonesia.
