This condition is most common in the fallopian tubes and ovaries but this does not mean that other reproductive organs are not at risk of developing an abscess.

An abscess is a complication that must also be treated immediately. If left untreated, the infection can spread throughout the body into sepsis. In certain cases, this condition can be life-threatening.
