IVF Success Story: Achieving Pregnancy Despite PCOS, Polyps, and OAT Challenges

The presence of a child in the family was the most awaited moment for Laxmi and Aris. The couple had been waiting for a child for six years. Laxmi and Aris almost welcomed their baby but sadly experienced a miscarriage. Undeterred, they decided to try the fertility program (promil) once again.
Traveling a distance of 70 km from their home was not a barrier for Laxmi and her husband in their pursuit of a child. Whether driving their private vehicle, taking public transportation, or often choosing to stay overnight at nearby lodging when the husband was unable to accompany her, the couple did it all with sincere hearts.
Mother Diagnosed with PCOS and Multiple Endometrial Polyps, Father with OAT
After undergoing examination, it was found that Laxmi had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and multiple endometrial polyps. Multiple endometrial polyps refer to the excessive growth of endometrial polyps within the uterine cavity.
The reproductive health challenges were not only faced by Laxmi; Aris also experienced an issue with his reproductive organs. Aris was diagnosed with Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT). This condition is a sperm abnormality characterized by a low sperm count (Oligo), poor movement (Astheno), and abnormal shape (Terato) compared to normal sperm. This sperm abnormality can certainly hinder the sperm from fertilizing the egg.
Despite numerous medical conditions posing obstacles to them having a child, the couple approached the therapy and doctors’ advice with full devotion and patience. Laxmi underwent three hysteroscopy procedures in 2022, 2023, and 2024. She also began consuming vitamins, various medications, and started stimulation injections.
Tanya Mincah tentang Promil?
In 2022, they attempted a natural fertility program but were unsuccessful. After thorough consideration, the doctor advised them to undergo the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program.
In 2023, Laxmi started egg stimulation, followed by the Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) procedure, and eventually froze 10 embryos. From 2023 to 2024, the focus was on thickening the uterine lining to ensure optimal embryo transfer.
The couple was guided by dr. William T. Wahono, Sp.OG, as the Obgyn specialist assisting the mother, and dr. Gito Wasian, Sp.And, the Andrology specialist assisting the father.
Enjoying a Vacation During the Fertility Program
In the middle of the IVF process, the couple chose to take a vacation and enjoy quality time together to maintain a happy and calm state of mind.
After enjoying their holiday, Laxmi had her last menstrual period before undergoing the embryo transfer process.
In July 2024, the uterine lining was thick and ready for embryo transfer. After the procedure, Laxmi’s -hCG hormone result reached 2,000, but her progesterone hormone levels were still low. Therefore, injections were administered to boost the progesterone hormone.
The role of the progesterone hormone during pregnancy is crucial. This hormone helps in preparing and maintaining the uterine lining to support fetal growth, sustain the pregnancy, and prepare the body for breastfeeding.
After enduring the entire long process, the six-year wait was finally rewarded with the first sound of their baby’s heartbeat. Now, their family is complete with the arrival of their little angel.
Parents, do not underestimate reproductive disorders. Immediately check your fertility condition to get the appropriate treatment and determine the right course of action.
