A couple who has been married for one year or more and has engaged in unprotected intercourse without achieving pregnancy is considered to have infertility. Infertility can be caused by various medical conditions, either in the man or the woman. This was also experienced by Bunda Dewi and Ayah Aria.
The couple had been married for 10 years without conceiving, until they finally decided to begin a fertility program at Bocah Indonesia in November 2023.
Bunda Diagnosed with Adenomyosis and Tubal Issues
Bunda Dewi was diagnosed with adenomyosis, a condition that made it difficult for the couple to conceive naturally. Adenomyosis occurs when the endometrial tissue grows into the uterine muscle layer (myometrium).
Although adenomyosis is generally not dangerous, it can cause symptoms such as pain and bleeding. More importantly, adenomyosis may interfere with fertility because the thickened uterine wall becomes less suitable for implantation of a fertilized egg.
Additionally, Bunda Dewi was diagnosed with tubal problems. The fallopian tubes play an essential role as the site where sperm and egg meet for fertilization.

Ayah Diagnosed with Oligoteratozoospermia
Not only did Bunda Dewi experience reproductive challenges, but her husband, Ayah Aria, was also diagnosed with oligoteratozoospermia.
Oligoteratozoospermia is a semen abnormality characterized by low sperm count and abnormal sperm morphology. This condition can affect fertility because the sperm may struggle to fertilize the egg.
The couple then decided to undergo an in vitro fertilization (IVF) program at Bocah Indonesia. They were treated by dr. Andriana Kumala Dewi, Sp.OG, Subsp.FER, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, who guided Bunda Dewi, and dr. Tiara Kirana, Sp.And, an andrology specialist, who assisted Ayah Aria.
After improvements were made for both partners, the embryo transfer process was carried out. Embryo transfer is a crucial step in IVF, during which embryos created from fertilized eggs are placed into the woman’s uterus.
Bunda Dewi then had to wait two weeks after the embryo transfer before taking a pregnancy test.
There is no effort that betrays the result. The two lines they had long dreamed of finally appeared before their eyes. After 10 years of waiting, their hope was fulfilled. Their dream of having a child came true through the IVF program.
