One of the important male reproductive organs is the testis. Typically, men have two testes that function in producing the hormone testosterone and generating sperm.
The importance of their role makes it crucial to maintain the health of the testes. If there are disturbances in the testes, it can potentially hinder the process of sperm production and testosterone hormone production.

Common Causes of Testicular Pain
Men of any age range can experience testicular pain. The pain might occur on one side of the testes or both. If the pain persists, it could be caused by various conditions, such as:

Injury
One of the causes of testicular pain is injury. The testes are one of the most vulnerable reproductive organs to injury from sports or accidents.
This minor trauma to the testes can cause temporary pain which can subside anytime, either naturally or with the application of a compress.
Orchitis
Testicular pain can also be caused by orchitis. Orchitis is inflammation that occurs in the testes. This condition is usually triggered by bacterial or viral infections. Pain can occur on one side or both sides of the testes.
If you experience orchitis, the pain can spread throughout the scrotum, which is the sac that envelops the testes.
Not only does the pain spread, but the scrotum also experiences swelling and feels warm. Generally, the skin of the scrotum will turn red due to the swelling.
Varicocele
Another cause of testicular pain that may be experienced is varicocele. Varicocele is a condition where there is swelling of the blood vessels in the testes. It appears similar to varicose veins in the legs, where the veins under the skin of the scrotum are swollen.
It’s important to know, varicocele can affect fertility or fertility. This is because, swelling in the testes causes an increase in temperature in that area. If this condition occurs, the process of testosterone hormone and sperm production can be hindered.
Testicular Torsion

Hydrocele
Another condition that may cause testicular pain is hydrocele. Hydrocele is a condition of fluid or blood accumulation in the membrane protecting the testes. This membrane is located inside the scrotum surrounding each testis.
Testicular Cancer

How to Address Testicular Pain
Treatment for testicular pain depends on its primary cause. Therefore, when experiencing such conditions, it is advisable to consult a doctor immediately for further treatment and care.
The doctor will assess the condition through a physical examination, observing the testes and assessing their size and position.
If testicular pain is caused by orchitis, antibiotics will be necessary to treat the infection. The doctor may also prescribe pain relief medication such as acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
If the testicular pain is due to varicocele, the treatment will be tailored accordingly, such as surgery to repair the problematic testicular blood vessels.
There are also several self-care measures to address testicular pain, such as:
Applying cold compresses to the testes
Taking pain relief medication (paracetamol or ibuprofen)
Using a special support device like an athletic supporter to support the testes during the healing process.
Avoiding tight clothing
Taking pain relief medication, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
Taking antibiotics if the pain is caused by a bacterial infection
