Do Testicular Disorders Affect Sperm Quality

Testicular health can influence the process of sperm production, which can impact fertility. But does testicular health also affect sperm quality?

The testes are one of the male reproductive organs that play a crucial role in the reproductive system. The testes’ roles include producing testosterone hormone and also sperm, specifically in the coiled tubes called seminiferous tubules.

This makes testicular health essential for male fertility. If there are problems or medical disorders in the testes, it is feared to affect the process of sperm production. If not addressed promptly, parents’ plans to conceive may be hindered.

The Influence of Testicular Health on Sperm Quality

According to Dr. Gito Wasian, Sp.And, an andrology specialist at Bocah Indonesia, infertility in men can be caused by several factors, ranging from hormones, testicular problems as the site of sperm production, to blockages in the sperm ducts.

“If there are issues with the testes, the sperm production process cannot be maximized. Other factors, such as heat or due to free radicals. Heat can be caused by varicocele inside the body, or externally, such as soaking in hot water, wearing tight pants, layered pants, cycling, or others. Avoid activities that can generate heat in the groin area as much as possible,” said Dr. Gito.

Furthermore, free radicals can also affect the site of sperm production. “In addition, free radicals can also cause problems in the testes. Free radicals mostly come from cigarette smoke, pollution, to processed foods,” he added.

Based on Dr. Gito’s statement, temperature and testicular health conditions are important factors to maintain as they can affect the sperm production process.

Basically, if there are disturbances in the testes, it does not always affect sperm quality. However, according to a study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, men with occupations such as mechanics, drivers, and bakers have a high risk of decreased sperm quality due to increased temperatures around the testes.

Furthermore, another study published in the same journal discusses the relationship between the temperature in the workplace and sperm quality. Even, a study involving 336 men revealed that a hot working environment can affect sperm DNA quality. In this case, there is an increase in sperm DNA damage.

In a study published in the journal of the Indonesian Computer University, it is mentioned that factors affecting sperm quality include excessive heat, alcohol, smoking, lack of sleep, wearing tight pants, and rarely exercising.

Now, Father knows the importance of testicular health in the sperm production process, right? Don’t forget to always maintain a healthy lifestyle to preserve sperm quality.

If you experience symptoms of disorders in the testicular area, immediately seek examination at the nearest hospital or fertility clinic.
