Do IVF Injections Really Make You Hungry?
In the IVF (in vitro fertilization) process, IVF injections are routinely administered to stimulate follicles and regulate ovulation.
The IVF program is a complex fertility treatment option for couples with specific indications, especially if they have not achieved pregnancy through natural methods or insemination. The process involves retrieving eggs and sperm to be fertilized in the laboratory. It is a long and involved procedure, including regular injections to stimulate follicle growth.
Increased Appetite During IVF
For women undergoing IVF treatment, it is common to experience an increase in appetite or feel hungrier than usual. This is a normal occurrence for some women in the program.
This happens because the hormone injections given to stimulate follicle growth in the ovaries for laboratory fertilization can alter the body’s natural hormone balance. These changes are intended to normalize hormone levels in the body, but they can inadvertently disrupt the body’s natural hunger regulation system in the brain.
Hunger can also be triggered by emotional factors. Anxiety and stress may lead to a desire for food. Don’t worry; the increase or decrease in appetite is usually temporary and should return to normal eventually.

Tips for Managing Increased Hunger During IVF
If you experience an increased appetite while undergoing IVF treatment, there are ways to manage it and stay comfortable throughout the process.
Before indulging in snacks or extra meals, ask yourself if you are genuinely hungry or if your feelings are driven by emotions. This can help you better control your appetite and avoid overeating.
Managing the Side Effects of IVF Injections
To prevent side effects and ensure a smooth IVF process, you can follow these steps:
1. Engage in Light Exercise
One way to prevent side effects is by engaging in light exercise. Activities such as evening walks, yoga, or swimming are good options. Be sure to avoid heavy or extreme exercise, as this could increase the risk of a rare complication called ovarian torsion, where the ovary twists on its supporting ligaments.
2. Stay Hydrated
During IVF treatment, your body may become dehydrated. Therefore, it’s important to drink enough water every day. Remember, the human body is composed of 70 percent water, and it needs to be replenished daily.
3. Consult Your Doctor
You can consult your doctor about how to manage any side effects during the IVF program.
